“Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling Thursday stepped out of the cone of silence he entered last week after announcing he wouldn’t rejoin Virginia’s 2013 gubernatorial race to discuss one of his favorite topics of late: the state of the Republican Party.
In a wide ranging interview, Bolling elaborated on his decision not to run as an independent, offered his perspective on the high-profile race that’ll go on without him, and praised the national GOP for its recent introspection over its messaging and outreach.
Bolling also had some choice words for Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, the GOP nominee for governor who found himself at the center of controversy this week after video surfaced in which he likened the fight against abortion to the abolition of slavery.
“Any second that we spend being distracted by discussions about whether or not abortion and slavery are comparable is a wasted second,” said Bolling, who withdrew from the race after Cuccinelli succeeded in switching the nomination contest from an open primary election to a closed party convention.”
