Newest University of Washington student group – Human Rights Society UW
By Alex Sum on February 11, 2015 at University of Washington’s Savery Hall 164 (Seattle, Washington, USA) – The newest chapter of Human Rights Society (HRS) has birthed from current University of Washington interns. Spearheaded by Chloe Akahori, inaugural President, Human Rights Society UW is a registered student group on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington Seattle campus and will partner closely with HRS to advocate for human rights locally and overseas. The other talented founding officers are Jenn Charoni (Vice President), Brooke Byun (Vice President), Becca Yonashiro (Project Manager), Halle McClain (Treasurer), and Jason Viaysanh (Secretary). “This amazing group of students have such a strong passion for justice and will no doubt be very successful in their human rights advocacy work on campus and beyond. We are privileged to partner with them going forward,” says Alex Sum, Human Rights Society Founder, who attended the first official meeting of Human Rights Society UW. Great ideas and plans are already underway to advocate for human rights in a creative and collaborative fashion such as the upcoming Human Rights Film Festival, amongst other events.
