“Security forces rescued three Guatemalan girls who were about to be taken into Mexico by sex traffickers, authorities said Thursday.

The girls were freed on Wednesday in the southwestern province of San Marcos, which borders on Mexico, police spokesman Pablo Castillo told reporters.

The girls, about whom no information was provided, were from the town of San Pablo in San Marcos.

Castillo said that during the rescue operation authorities arrested Blanca Lianeth Rodriguez Perez, 27, and a 13-year-old girl known as “La Catracha,” who was turned over to a juvenile court.

The pair had told the girls that legitimate jobs were waiting for them in Mexico but their true aim was to sexually exploit them in the state of Chiapas, the spokesman said.

The girls were found after the activation of the Alba Keneth system in which a number of Guatemalan institutions participate.

Rodriguez was turned over to a court in San Marcos on charges of human trafficking, according to the authorities.”
