“A Wisconsin man charged with bringing a minor across state lines for prostituting in Illinois was indicted Tuesday.
Dejuan Key, 30, of Milwaukee, brought a 15-year-old girl from Madison to Romeoville, where, on Sept. 9 and 10, she was forced to perform sex acts for money at a motel, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Key was charged Saturday with sex-trafficking a minor and faces 10 years to life in prison if convicted, federal prosecutors said previously.
A grand jury indicted him on the charge Tuesday, and demanded Key hand over a tablet computer and $320 in cash tied to the case, according to a document filed in U.S. District Court.
Romeoville police located the girl on Sept. 10 at a fast food restaurant after her mother reported that her daughter had called and said she was being held captive at a local motel, prosecutors said at the time of his arrest.
Police were reportedly able to identify the girl with the help of a woman who Key was also exploiting, according to prosecutors.
She told the FBI she met Key in Madison on Sept. 8 and he told her they were going to Milwaukee, but he would bring her back, according to prosecutors. Instead they drove to Chicago and he told her if she worked for him as a prostitute she could keep all the money.
The victim told agents she repeatedly asked to go home, but Key instead took photos of her and posted online advertisements, prosecutors said. On Sept. 9 and 10, she met men for prostitution, but Key did not let her keep the money.
Key previously appeared before Judge Daniel G. Martin in Chicago, where he waived his right to a detention hearing and preliminary examination, according to court documents. He will remain in custody until his trial.”
