TRAUMA AND THE SEX TRADE: A TRAINING FOR THERAPISTS AND MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS with Leslie Briner, MSW
This 6-hour training is designed for clinicians. The training will provide in-depth knowledge about the prevalence of harm, violence and trauma experienced by sexually exploited people. Participants will also learn how integrative recovery models and evidence-based interventions are used to support survivors through their recovery process. Learning objectives include:
  • Increase understanding of what it means to be in the sex trade
  • Consider personal and societal beliefs and biases about people in the sex trade
  • Identify types of harm, violence and trauma experienced by sexually exploited people
  • Become familiar with relevant research, focusing specifically on the prevalence of complex PTSD
  • Learn and practice useful interventions based on integrative model of recovery

ENDING COMMERCIAL SEXUAL EXPLOITATION 101 TRAINING
with Leslie Briner/YouthCare
This 6-hour training is designed to increase awareness and capacity of service providers to identify, engage and respond to youth involved in prostitution. At the conclusion of the training, participants will gain the following skills/knowledge:
  • Develop awareness of the complex issue of commercial sexual exploitation of youth
  • Understand the unique language and sub-culture of prostitution
  • Be familiar with the laws and legal implications pertaining to commercially sexually exploited youth and the individuals who exploit them
  • Begin to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to address commercial sexual exploitation in diverse settings
Information to be covered:
  • Framework and cultural context of commercial sexual exploitation
  • Language of the sub-culture
  • Vulnerable pathways into prostitution
  • Engagement and safety planning
  • Mental health and trauma bonding
  • Physical health needs
  • Prostitution Laws

PROSTITUTION, EXPLOITATION AND SEX WORK: NAVIGATING MULTIPLE FRAMEWORKS WITH QUEER AND TRANS YOUTH
Trainer: Shannon Perez-Darby/Northwest Network of Bisexual, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse (NW Network)
Training goals:
  • Understanding youth self-determination and its relationship to sexual exploitation
  • Centering the experience of LGBT youth
  • Understanding more about the various frameworks used to address the experiences of LGBT youth who trade sex for money
  • Exploring the overlaps in these frameworks to help find common ground in the hopes of better supporting LGBT youth in the trade
