OREGON: Four Children Rescued In Sex-Trafficking Sting

On July 23, 2014 for OPBNews—
“A nationwide sex-trafficking sting helped rescue four children in Oregon, including a baby, according the Portland FBI. Federal officials say they rounded up four pimps over the weekend, and have identified a fifth suspected pimp.

FBI spokeswoman Beth Anne Steele says the the three girls who had been pressed into prostitution, as well as the baby, are receiving a range of social services. Officials are not saying where any of the children are from, or how old they are.

Steele said the sting, termed “Operation Cross Country Seven,” is only one piece of the sex trafficking crackdown.

“I don’t think you can use the numbers of kids recovered in the sting, or the number of pimps arrested as a good indicator of how many people are engaging in this kind of behavior or how many kids have been drawn into this kind of lifestyle,” she said.

Steele said pimps are increasingly getting convicted and receiving long prison sentences. Twenty-two local law enforcement and social service agencies contributed to the operation in the greater Portland area.”
